At WestCor Companies, we take safety seriously. Not only are we concerned for the wellbeing of our employees, we recognize the tangible, considerable savings that a well-implemented safety program can deliver. Throughout our history, we’ve led the way by adopting safety practices long before they became mandatory. Today, all our companies are NHQ certified, and our California office is a two-time winner of the Golden Gate OSHA award. We have also received a gold level safety award from ABC. In Nevada, our record has earned us a seat with OSHA and the Southern Nevada Homebuilders Association – which develops and monitors all safety standards for the industry.
Achieving our safety standards begin with thorough, continuous trainingOur Safety Department is staffed with full-time personnel who oversee a comprehensive safety program, and rigorously enforce its policies and procedures. The foundation of this program is routine training, which we administer through toolbox talks, site-specific field training, and classroom training. Our topics include everything from dealing with personal protective equipment, electrical, hand and power tools, lock out tag out, ladder training, cords and hoses, fall protection, drug and alcohol program, hazard communication program, and MSDS. We also teach procedures for accident reporting, and responding to various accident scenarios. In addition, our safety inspectors are certified to teach the OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour classes, and are registered in the outreach teaching program.
How we monitor and enforce safety at the jobsiteEqually important is our process for monitoring and enforcing safety standards. At every jobsite, our superintendant completes multiple safety inspections throughout the day, while our safety department performs a jobsite inspection each day. If an unsafe condition is discovered, we stop work immediately, report it to the supervisor and resume work only when the condition has been rectified. If employees fail to follow OSHA and company procedures, disciplinary measures start with a verbal warning, then a written warning, and if necessary, termination of employment.
How our safety program directly benefits your bottom lineWhen you work with us, you’ll enjoy significantly lower insurance premiums. You’ll reduce or eliminate the chance of fines from OSHA, as well as the likelihood of insurance claims or lawsuits. You’ll reduce chances of jobsite shutdowns or interruptions due to accidents. Collectively, these factors will benefit you with overall shorter project turnarounds at lower costs.
